The ripping programs are encoded MP3 files at 128 kilobits per second, when you say they are not different. This figure represents approximately 1 MB per minute. Assuming that the CD is about 70 minutes, resulting in about 34 gigabytes.
EDIT: Forgot to say - 128k is a good setting for most music, but you can get away with a smaller value of the word - 96k or 64k. That the file size is reduced accordingly.
